Apologies for the downtime...

Apologies for the downtime...

Postby mts on Wed Feb 09, 2005 2:36 am

Hi all...

Earlier today, some script-kiddies gained access to the server hosting decemberists.com. Originally, we thought it was through this board, but that turned out not to be the case... at any rate, they had installed an irc proxy and were having all kinds of fun.

We had to shut down the server for a bit while we cleaned up the droppings.

I decided that even though, the board hadn't been breached - it was in need of updating, and I thought it would be a short process - suffice it to say it wasn't. Files had to be restored from a very slow tape backup, and I had to patch phpBB by hand as I was silly enough to go hacking through the source code when I installed this months and months ago and the board couldn't be updated with the patch file.

ANYWAY... I'm SORRY.

PLEASE FORGIVE ME

As you were.

Because it was down, I forced myself to actually do work! So, thanks!

That you got it back without losing anything is proof that you are unstoppable. You cannot be stopped.

It is my opinion that admins and techs of various kinds don't get enough love.

So: <3 for being a good board admin. Thankee kindly for your services!

My apologies if this is not the best place to post this, but the mods ought to know...

The FAQ page is broken, showing a PHP parse error.
